How to Use Diapers for Bedwetting
Bedwetting is a common childhood occurrence that often leads to embarrassment and reluctance to visit friends for overnight stays. According to Goodnites, up to 7 million American children, including 20 percent of 4- to 12-year-olds, wet the bed. Many things cause bedwetting, but most children grow out of it. Some adults also wet the bed, for a variety of reasons. You can use cloth or disposable diapers to help eliminate stained mattresses and repeated nightly pajama changes. By placing a puddle pad beneath the fitted sheet on a mattress, you will have extra assurance that urine will not soak into the mattress materials.
Things You'll Need
- Disposable diaper pants or cloth diapers and plastic pants
- Puddle pad
Instructions
Place the appropriate-size disposable or cloth diaper on the child or adult. Disposable diaper pants for children, such as Goodnites, come in a wide array of colors and sizes. Disposable diaper pants for adults, such as Depends, come in assorted styles and sizes. If using cloth diapers, user waterproof pants for extra waterproofing. Place a puddle pad beneath the fitted sheet, on top of the mattress. Puddle pads are waterproof pads that protect the mattress from urine stains. They are made from a wide range of materials, from plastic to wool. Put the child or adult's pajamas on as usual, and put them to bed on top of the sheet, and on top of the puddle pad. Wash cloth diapers and plastic pants in the washing machine, and dry the diapers in the clothes dryer. Plastic pants are best air-dried. Dispose of disposable diaper pants in the trash. Puddle pads can be washed in the washing machine and dried in the dryer as necessary.
