Valentine Photo Cards
-
Plan a Valentine-themed photo shoot of your kids to make picture cards and other photo projects. One idea is to cut out a few large cardboard hearts and paint them in different pastel colors to look like candy hearts, using non-toxic tempera paint. Write messages on the hearts, such as "Love Ya," Kiss Me," and "Be Mine." Have the kids pose with their sweetest faces while holding the hearts. Another idea would be to build a carnival-style kissing booth. Place one or two kids in the booth and draw red lips all over their faces with red lipstick. If you have a toddler or an infant, it might be cute to dress them up like cupid, using small angel wings and a toy bow and arrow.
Valentine Picture Wreaths
-
Help your kids create a wreath with pictures of the whole family to hang on your front door. Cut out a large heart shape out of construction paper, then cut out the middle to make a heart-shaped wreath. Cut medium-sized paper hearts out of red, white and pink construction paper. Glue individual pictures of family members into the hearts, including extended family members. Give the kids non-toxic all-purpose glue sticks to use. The pictures should be cut in a heart shape, small enough to fit into the paper hearts. Paste the picture hearts to the heart-shaped wreath, until it's fully covered and hole punch the top for hanging. You can enhance the wreath by adding embellishments. Help the kids glue wrapped chocolate candies, or lollipops to the wreath in between the picture hearts, or tie tiny red and pink bows between the hearts.
Photo Candy Holders
-
Create cool photo cards that appear to have your kids holding out Valentine's candy to the card recipient. For each picture, take a picture of one of your children in front of a Valentine-themed background, holding out one fisted hand slightly above their head, as if grabbing something. After printing the photo card with a Valentine's message, use a craft knife to make tiny slits at the top and bottom of your child's fist in the picture. Stick a lollipop, cake pops, or wrapped red licorice sticks in the slit. You don't have to stick with that pose, however. Other ideas include having your child make a heart with her hands and sticking a candy heart in the center, or placing a candy heart over her own heart in the picture.
Valentine Picture Frames
-
Have your kids decorate the frame their Valentine pictures will go in. You could give the kids red, pink and white finger paints. Using just their fingertips, the kids can cover a plain wood frame with the paint for a cool pattern. They could also dip small heart stencils in the paint and press those onto the picture frame. Another idea is to give the kids magazines have them cut out any pictures with red, pink or white in them. Tear the pieces up and use them to cover the picture frame for a collage effect. Another way to make the picture frame stand out is to cover the frame with textured items, such as colored sand, buttons, foam hearts, or crumbled tissue paper shaped like roses.
