Kids Olympic Indoor Activities

In preparation for any Olympics, many families host their own Olympic games. They gather friends and families to enjoy the festivities. Instead of passively watching the games, challenge your guests to Olympic-themed games. Several activities that are fun for the entire family will turn your party into an unforgettable event. However, if you are only interested in games for the children, you can easily find many kid-orientated activities.

  1. Ceremonial Olympic Torch

    • No event would be official without an opening ceremony with an "official" Olympic Torch. You'll need white construction paper, clear tape, tissue paper (red, yellow and orange) and white craft glue. Roll the construction paper into the shape of a cone and secure with a piece of tape. Stack the tissue paper starting with the red then orange and finishing with the yellow. Shape the tissue paper into a bouquet by gathering from the center of the paper. Add the craft glue to the inside of the cone and secure your paper "fire" inside the torch.

    Birdie Feather Race

    • This is a short-distance race spanning the largest room in your house. Have the children take off one shoe and one sock. Give each of them a feather and instruct them to hold it between two toes. The object of this game is for the children to walk to the finish line without dropping the feather. If a player drops the feather, he has to go back and start over. For an added challenge, tell children to walk like ducks and place a feather between toes on both feet.

    Obstacle Course

    • Creating an obstacle course is easy using the items already in your home. Create a tunnel by placing a sheet or blanket over chairs positioned across from each other. Next, the children will hop five times to the next obstacle. Place a jumping rope or a measuring tape across the floor, have them walk heel-to-toe across the "tight rope." Toss several balls or pillows across the room into a laundry or wastebasket. End the games with jumping jacks across the finish line.

    Olympic Medals

    • End your Olympic games with a medal ceremony. You will need ribbons (preferably red, white and blue), plastic yogurt containers, quarters or half-dollars, aluminum foil, shoe polish, a soft rag and crafts glue. First, glue the quarter on the center of the lid, staple ribbons on the back and cover with foil. Lastly, rub with shoe polish for a cast metal effect. Place boxes of different sizes for the children to stand on. Don't forget to photograph the winners.
