How to Make a Paper Doll Chain

Spend a long day inside when the weather outside is frightful with this eco-friendly and entertaining craft. Not only are you recycling old throwaway items and turning them into works of art, you're also making decorations your child can hang up. You just need a pair of scissors, some old paper bags, some markers and old magazines and you've got a new, fun way to explore your creative side.

Things You'll Need

  • Glue stick
  • Paper bags
  • Scissors
  • Old magazines
  • Markers

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a long, wide strip off of a brown paper grocery bag. Try cutting the strip all the way down the bag, across the bottom and up the other side. The width should be about 4 to 5 inches, depending on how big you want the paper dolls to be.

    • 2

Cut off any bag handles or excess folds of bag from the long strip. Begin folding the strip accordian-style, in rectangles of about 3 to 4 inches. You should end up with a neat little rectangle with folded identical rectangles underneath.

    • 3

Draw the figure of a person standing with arms and legs spread. The head should be at the top of the rectangle and the feet should touch the bottom. Make sure the arms reach each vertical side of the rectangle, so the hands will connect from rectangle to rectangle.

    • 4

Cut out the figure. It will be hard to cut since the stack of rectangles will be thick and you are cutting through the whole stack at the same time.

    • 5

Pull the paper dolls apart and you should have a connected chain. Decorate them with markers and by cutting out old magazine pages to make colorful clothes, hair and accessories.
