What Type of Social Activities Do Late Adolescents Like?
In addition to hanging out during school, teenagers want to socialize with their friends. Rather than letting your teenager sit around and complain of boredom, provide him with ideas to get active and enjoy something more exciting than watching television. There are plenty of late adolescent activities that are fun, safe and age-appropriate.

Events
-
Groups of teenagers like to attend events together. When their favorite band comes to town, concerts are a popular way for friends to socialize while sharing a common interest. A sporting event -- whether it̵7;s a high school game or a professional sporting event -- can be exciting for teens to get together and cheer on their favorite team. Teens attend school dances, such as homecoming or prom, to meet up with their friends and dance the night away.
Outdoor Activities
-
Teenagers find a variety of activities to do at the beach if a lake or ocean is nearby. They can swim, throw around a football or play volleyball. Teens can also hike, bike or go kayaking to enjoy the great outdoors. If a group of friends enjoys sports, they can play a game of basketball, football, soccer or baseball in their free time. During the winter months, skiing and snowboarding are ideal ways for teens to get outside with friends and get a little exercise.
Restaurants or Venues
-
Going out for pizza or burgers allows teens to enjoy their favorite foods and spend time together outside of the house. Other places teens go to hang out include bowling allies, movie theaters, miniature golf courses or go-kart tracks. Water parks and amusement parks are places for teens to interact socially during the summertime. Coffee shops are venues where teens gather to do their homework, listen to live music or just enjoy friendly conversations.
Parties
-
Whether it̵7;s a celebration with a big group of kids or a small gathering of close friends, teenagers enjoy parties. Parties don̵7;t need to get out-of-hand or involve alcohol. Parents should communicate expectations for parties to control their teens. Parties can be as simple as playing video games or getting together for a movie night. Slumber parties or karaoke parties are also fun ways for teenagers to spend time together. Pool parties or barbecues are enjoyable get-togethers for teens when the temperatures warm up.
