How to Use Avent Bottles

Avent bottles are wider than traditional bottles. This makes them much easier to fill up and clean. The nipple of the Avent bottle was designed to only allow air to flow in one direction. This results in less gas for a newborn. Since gas can lead to colic, it is very important to do all you can to eliminate gas. Another great feature about Avent bottles is that they can be attached to breast pumps. Once you are done expressing your milk, you can unscrew it from the pump and then just screw on the bottle nipple.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your Avent bottle before you begin to use it. You need to do this even if the bottle is brand new. A little dish soap is all you need. Just make sure you rinse the bottle thoroughly before you place breast milk or formula in the bottle so that the baby isn't drinking any soap.

Place the nipple up and through the round ring. Make sure you pull it up tight so that it won't leak when you use it.

    • 3

Fill the bottle with either formula or breast milk. If you use formula you will want to add one scoop of formula for every 2 ounces of water.

    • 4

Screw the ring with the nipple on to the bottle. Remember that turning the ring to the right will tighten it and turning it left will loosen it.

    • 5

Feed your baby the bottle or place the lid on for future use. The lid must be placed directly over the top of the nipple or else the nipple will leak when tilted over. You can store the bottle in the refrigerator and heat it up when you are ready to use it.

    • 6

Wash the bottle again when you are finished using it. Unscrew the ring and remove the nipple. Dump out any leftover milk from the bottle. Wash with hot soapy water. Use a bottle brush to get any spots you can't reach with your wash cloth. Rinse completely and then and set it out to dry.
