Good Reasons Why a Child Should Have a Phone
If your child is like many kids today, they are technology crazed with "cell phones" being at the top of their "must have" list. They may have their own reasons why they feel having one is necessary, such as, "all my other friends at school have one." There are, however, good reasons why you should consider giving your child a cell phone.
-
For Emergency Situations
-
Giving your child a cell phone for emergency situations is probably one of the top reasons. Not being able to reach your child during these type of situations is a parents worst fear. If you have a teenager who's driving, allowing a cell phone for emergency situations, such as a flat tire or other mechanical breakdowns, will put your mind at ease.
Convenience
-
Giving your child a cell phone for the convenience of being in touch at all times is an added bonus and it works both ways. It would allow you to call if you're running late for pick-up, and your child will also have that same convenience. This makes it easy to make plans, confirm pick up times and locations, all without your child having to depend on using someone else cell phone, or waiting on you in any unsafe locations. Not to mention, most phones today come with a GPS tracking device to allow you to monitor your child's activity at all times.
To Teach Responsibility
-
There is a lot of responsibility involved with taking care of a cell phone. Using this electronic device as a way of teaching one of life's many important lessons is another good reason for giving your child a cell phone. A cell phone needs to be charged every day, special care must be taken when handling it so it is not damaged and, most importantly, it needs to be accounted for daily. Losing it would mean losing talking privileges.
