How to Handle Curly Hair on a Baby

Just like adults, babies can have different kinds of hair, ranging from fine and wispy to thick and curly. If your baby has a head of curly hair, tangles may be a particular problem. You will probably find that your little one doesn̵7;t share your priorities and couldn̵7;t care less whether her hair looks neat and pretty. Do your best to manage your baby̵7;s curly locks anyway.

Things You'll Need

  • Wide-toothed comb
  • Detangling spray
  • Baby shampoo
  • Light conditioner
  • Absorbent towel

Instructions

    • 1

Comb your little one̵7;s hair whenever it appears tangled. Use the wide-toothed comb to work at the curls gently, without pulling or tugging them, which could hurt the baby. To prevent a negative association with combing your baby̵7;s hair, always strive to handle her hair gently without hurting her. If she gets stubborn tangles, stop and use a different detangling approach.

    • 2

Spritz your fingers lightly with detangling spray and apply it to your baby̵7;s curls if she has difficult tangles. Massage the detangling spray into her hair gently to loosen the tangle. After you loosen the tangle with your fingers, comb the hair out completely with the comb.

    • 3

Wash your baby̵7;s hair twice per week, or more if she gets it dirty. Comb your little one̵7;s hair before washing to detangle and then wash it gently with baby shampoo. Avoid rubbing overzealously, because you might pull your baby̵7;s hair and you could create tangles. Rinse your baby̵7;s hair well with warm water.

    • 4

Add a few drops of conditioner to your infant̵7;s curls and work it through carefully to coat the hair evenly. Rinse out the conditioner thoroughly.

    • 5

Pat your little one̵7;s hair dry with an absorbent towel. Avoid rubbing to dry the hair, because this could create tangles.

    • 6

Comb your baby̵7;s hair gently while it̵7;s still wet.
