How Much Do Live-in Nannies Cost?
Unlike the 1950s and before, more mothers than ever are working and most households have two incomes. There are options for childcare outside of being a stay-at-home mom, and one of them is hiring a nanny to live with you and your family.

Salary
-
Nannies can be paid hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. It mostly depends on what works for you. Standard pay for a live in nanny varies a bit, depending on the amount of work she is expected to do and the city your family lives in, as well as her credentials. Most live in nannies get paid between $300 and $750 a week. Some nannies are paid more than that. Make sure you decide how many hours a week she will be working and divide the salary by that number. The result needs to be at least minimum wage. And if she ends up working more than 40 hours in a seven-day week, as live-in nannies are considered employees and not contractors by the federal government, you will need to pay overtime.
Room and Board
-
The nanny will need a place to stay -- at least a room of her own, and she will also need meals. If you are providing very nice room and board, you can potentially pay her a salary that is slightly lower.
Other Benefits
-
Many families will pay health insurance for their live in nanny. Either your nanny can pick a reasonable plan for herself or you can choose one for her. If you do not pay for health insurance, her salary should be higher to compensate. You can also offer paid vacation, retirement benefits if you desire. Just make sure you fulfill all the government requirements for having an employee, which includes payroll tax and Social Security.
