How to Prepare an Annual Review for a Nanny

An annual review is a good tool to assess your nanny's performance. An annual review can be used to assess your nanny's ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities outlined in your work agreement and to evaluate her performance. Annual reviews are often used to determine if a nanny's work agreement will be extended and if and how much of an annual salary raise there may be.

Instructions

    • 1

Review your current work agreement. Pay special attention to your nanny's job description and outline of role and responsibilities.

    • 2

Review your nanny's daily log book. Pay attention to the notes she's made and to the things your nanny has done to foster your child's growth and development.

    • 3

Inform your nanny that her annual review is approaching and arrange a time to meet. Ideally, in two parent homes, both parents should be at the meeting and the children should not be present.

    • 4

Create a document that allows you to evaluate your nanny's performance. Separate your document into three areas: childcare, work habits and household tasks. In the childcare section, on a poor to excellent scale, evaluate your nanny's ability to pay attention to safety, hygiene, meal preparation, age appropriate activities and discipline. In the work habits section, on a poor to excellent scale, evaluate your nanny's ability to be punctual, trustworthy, communicative of good judgment and reliable. In the household task section, on a poor to excellent scale, evaluate your nanny's ability to keep up kid’s laundry, maintain play areas and prepare meals. Provide an area for general suggestions that you may have and an area to add additional comments about your nanny's performance.

    • 5

Complete your nanny evaluation using the document you created in Step 4.

    • 6

Meet with your nanny to review her performance evaluation. Go over your completed document and discuss any issues. Praise her for great performance and provide areas for improvement.

    • 7

Issue a salary increase based on performance. A cost of living raise of two to four percent plus a merit raise of five to 10 percent is a guideline.
