How to Make Bedtime Special
At the end of the day, you and your children are tired. Maybe you read the bedtime story, but after that, you are ready for Junior to go to sleep and that is the last thing he wants. What if you could make bedtime fun?
Things You'll Need
- imagination
- patience
- 1 blank sheet of paper
- a box of crayons
Instructions
Tell your young child you are going to do something new tonight. He will whine a lot to get the secret out, but do not give in yet. If he wants to know the secret, he has to take his bath, get into his pajamas, get one last drink, and brush his teeth. Tonight when you check the bathroom to see what stage of procrastination he is at, you will be pleasantly surprised to find him already in bed. Read him a short bedtime story and then get the crayons and paper. Ask your child to think of any animal. Tell him to draw it, or if he does not want to draw, you draw it. It does not matter if everything is stick figure art. Ask him what color the animal is, and color it yourself to save time if Junior will let you. Once both of you are done coloring, use your imagination and invent a story about the picture. Make it fun, and use lots of animal sounds as you tell Junior the story. When you get to the end of your story, tell Junior that he will have to race to sleep so the animal can get its rest. The adventure will will continue tomorrow night at bedtime. Your child will be excited to race you to bed each night to hear the latest adventure of the wonderful stick figure, you will help build fond memories, and you will not have to nag him to get him to sleep.
