Whether you are a parent, health professional or educator, educating yourself about children's health, safety and nutrition is important. Finding reliable information can be difficult, although not impossible. There are numerous resources available on children's health, safety and nutrition, both online and in print. Some of these resources are available for free or are very inexpensive.

Keep Kids Healthy Website

KeepKidsHealthy.com is an online resource offering pediatric advice for children's health and safety. You can access it to get free parenting advice or participate in online forums and gain information on nutrition, growth, development, common problems, diseases and conditions and infections in children. Resources are divided into the age groups of newborns, infants, toddlers, preschool, school age and adolescents. Sample articles posted in February, 2011 include Winter Safety, Allergic Reactions and Dental Emergencies. A free newsletter is also offered that provides regular news, tips and updates.

This online resource offers a wealth of information on children's health, development and nutrition. Family Education is the most visited site for parents and is the recipient of numerous web awards from USA Today, Family PC and Forbes Magazine. It offers practical guidance, grade-specific information, strategies to get involved with their children's learning and fun and entertaining family activities. Information is divided into specific age groups. Topics include safety, health and fitness, nutrition and social and emotional issues. Some articles posted in February, 2011, include Top Hot Spots for Germs, Signs of Eye Problems and Illnesses and Eating. Family Education also offers free e-mail newsletters and blogs and message boards.

Babytalk, Parenting Early Years and Parenting School Years are magazines published in the United States by Bonnier Publishing. Subscription rates are $12 for three years of monthly issues or $15 for four years, as of February 2011. Each issue includes information on health, nutrition and safety tips for infants, children or adolescents. Bonnier Publishing also offers a website, parenting.com, that lists many resources as well as a blog and free e-mail newsletter.

The Kids Health website has received numerous awards such as best family/parenting site, the parents choice gold award and the teacher's choice gold award for family. Topics include medical problems, first aid and safety and nutrition and fitness.
