Mini Candy Apples
-
Turn colored O-shaped candies into miniature candy apples. Line a baking sheet with foil. Tell the children to place red candies a few inches apart on the baking sheet -- keep an eye on younger children to avoid a choking hazard. Have the children crush green candies into small pieces. Children can place a small green piece beside each red candy on the baking sheet. Make sure the green pieces are touching, as they will be apple stems. Bake the lifesavers at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for eight to 10 minutes. Let cool and have the children eat their apple candies or use them for cupcake toppings.
Pumpkin Snack Bags
-
Use simple sandwich bags to create pumpkins. Cut sandwich bags diagonally in order for them to have a pointed corner on the bottom. Provide each child with a sandwich bag and fish-shaped cheese crackers. Have the children fill their sandwich bags with cheese crackers. Give the children green chenille craft stems to twist around the bag and secure it as the pumpkin's stem. After the green chenille craft stems are completely twisted around, cut off the excess parts of the bags.
Ice Cream Scarecrows
-
Mimic scarecrows with a tasty, cool snack. Provide each child with paper cupcake liner. Put a scoop of ice cream in each child's cupcake liner. Have the children turn an ice cream cone over and place it on top of the scoop. The ice cream will be the scarecrow's hat. Provide children with nuts, raisins, candies and other treats -- watching for choking hazards -- to create the scarecrow's face and hair. Let the children eat their creations before they melt.
Pumpkin Rice Cakes
-
Simple rice cakes can be turned into pumpkins. Mix orange food coloring with white icing. Provide the children with caramel rice cakes. Help the children spread the icing on the top of their rice cakes. Have the children pull apart green taffy and put a piece at the top for the pumpkin's stem. If the children want to make faces on their pumpkins, provide them with candies to create eyes, noses and mouths.
