  1. Camp Lookinback

    • The John Jay French Museum offers Camp Lookinback, a four-day summer camp for children ages 6 to 11. The camp is designed to introduce children to historic Texas and the pioneer life of the 1800s and engage their interest with hands-on activities.

      Children who attend the camp will learn about Native American culture and leather-craft, how to brand, rope and care for cattle, how to quilt, how to use a Dutch oven for cooking, about the skills used by pioneers and the cultural significance of the museum.

    Lamar University

    • Lamar University has three fine arts summer camps and seven sports summer camps. The fine arts camps are four days long and are available to children and teenagers in grades six through 12. Participants can attend band camp, choir camp or dance camp. Each day of the fine arts camp is full of intensive group and one-on-one instruction.

      The seven different types of sports camps include soccer, volleyball, girls' and boys' basketball, tennis, baseball and football. Most of the sports camps are broken down by skill level and as such, many camps are available for children ages 5 and older.

    Rao's Bake Camp

    • For the child interested in baking, Rao's Bakery provides half-day camps that teach children, from 5 to 12 years of age, how to decorate cakes and make cookies.

      The cake-decorating camp focuses on icing cakes, creating frosting borders and writing on cakes.

      In the cookies camp, children learn how to measure and mix ingredients, roll and bake cookie dough and decorate the finished cookies.

      At the end of the camp, participants are rewarded with recipes, a T-shirt, all the items they created and a bag full of decorating tips for baked goods.
