What Are the Three Special Parts of the Boy Scout Uniform?

Boys interested in becoming full-fledged Boy Scouts often join the Cub Scouts at an early age. Though Boy Scouts range in age from 10 to 18, the Cub Scout program is available to boys as young as seven. Webelos Scouts are one type of Cub Scout. One of its critical scouting tests involves pointing out the three special parts of the Webelos uniform. These parts are unique to Webelos and not present on any other scout uniform.

  1. Webelos Neckerchief

    • No matter which uniform a Webelos Scout wears, the uniform must always have the Webelos neckerchief. The neckerchief goes under the collar of the uniform. This neckerchief is different from other scouting neckerchiefs in that it is plaid and features the emblem of the Webelos. Webelos receive neckerchiefs in a neckerchief ceremony that focuses on the responsibilities of a scout.

    Webelos Neckerchief Slide

    • The Webelos neckerchief slide secures the neckerchief around the neck of a scout. The slide features the emblem of the Webelos. The slide is gold in color, with an engraved emblem on the front. The bottom of the Webelos emblem is bright blue. A Webelos neckerchief slide is an important part of the Webelos scout outfit and the Webelos must wear it at all times when in uniform.

    Webelos Hat

    • Though all scouts have hats that denote their troops and scouting organizations, the Webelos hat is unique in that it boasts the same plaid colors as the Webelos neckerchief and displays the Webelos emblem. The Webelos hat is the final touch of a Webelos uniform; scouts should wear it any time the uniform is required.
