Activities to Do With Kids
Kids' activities can be used as an opportunity to teach, share and enjoy the world around you. Activities for kids should engage their vivid imaginations and allow them to express their unique personalities. By engaging in activities together, adults and kids can foster relationships based on shared experiences and common interests.

Arts and Crafts
-
Get creative with the kids using whatever craft materials inspire you. Gather together craft materials such as cardboard, construction paper, glue, glitter, pipe cleaners, markers and paints. Follow specific craft instructions, or encourage the kids to use their own creatively to produce an original work of art. As you work, share your ideas with the kids and ask about their projects. Choose craft activities that feature a specific season, holiday or other theme. Pick a craft that can be used to decorate the home or the classroom.
Cooking and Baking
-
Teach your kids the edible arts of cooking and baking. This activity allows kids to familiarize themselves with food ingredients, kitchen utensils and the general process of meal making. Start with an easy dish that you know the kids enjoy, such as chocolate chip cookies. Allow the kids to measure and mix the ingredients themselves. For kids who are of reading age, instruct them to follow the directions of a written recipe. This process teaches kids the importance of following step-by-step directions and is fun at the same time.
Exciting Excursions
-
Allow the kids to explore the brilliant, diverse world around them by taking them on exciting excursions. It is easy for kids to become confined to school and their houses and it is important to expose them to new settings. Take the kids to the zoo or aquarium and use it as an opportunity to teach about exotic animals and foreign countries. Show the kids new natural environments by taking them to a beach or to the mountains. Expose the kids to various occupations by taking them to visit a farm or by going on factory tour. Explain history, art and cultures by taking kids to museums.
Games
-
There are a variety of types of games that kids enjoy. Choose a game based on the kids' interests, the number of kids you're working with and the type of atmosphere you want to create. For example, board games such as Monopoly or Candy Land work well as a quiet, indoor activity. Playing outdoor sports games such as kickball is one way to encourage fitness and engage a kid's competitive spirit. Performance games such as charades and karaoke work well for groups of kids who enjoy expressing their dramatic sides.
