Toddler Stocking Stuffer Ideas
Stocking stuffers are traditionally small gifts that fit in Christmas stockings. For toddlers, however, the gifts cannot be too small. If they are, there is a danger of toddlers choking on them, and most toddlers don't have the fine motor skills to play with very small toys. So it's important to choose toddler stocking stuffers that are age appropriate as well as fun.

Art Supplies
-
Art supplies are a fun stocking stuffer idea for older children, but thanks to new art supplies made just for toddlers, they can work for little ones too. Crayons made for gripping, such as those that are triangle-shaped or those that have grippers (see Resources) are one option. Color Wonder products, which only work on Color Wonder coloring books (see Resources), are another fun option for toddlers. Parents can buy small sets that include only a few markers and characters from popular toddler shows. Large sidewalk chalk is another art supply that is easy for toddlers to use and will fit perfectly in a stocking.
Books
-
Hard-to-destroy board books are very popular with toddlers. Depending on the size of the stocking, you can fit at least two board books inside. Some that will appeal especially to toddlers are "Goodnight Moon" and "Go Dog, Go!" (see Resources for more). If you're looking for something more flashy, Leapfrog's "My First Book" will appeal. It reads the story to your toddler and also supplies background music.
Things That Go
-
Small cars and trains are perfect stocking stuffers. When looking for cars and trains that are appropriate for toddlers, choose products made from wood and plastic, not metal. The Fisher-Price Little People cars and Playskool Tonka cars and trucks are good choices for toddlers. For trains, choose the Fisher Price GeoTrax trains or the Thomas the Tank Engine wooden railway pieces.
Musical Toys
-
Toddlers love music. Small tambourines, kazoos and triangles can all be stocking stuffers. Toddlers will also get a kick out of the Sing-A-Ma-Jigs. These small stuffed animals each sing a different song when their tummies are pressed. Depending on the size of the stocking, you can give one each year or let toddlers collect all of them at once.
Play Doh
-
Play Doh is popular with kids of many ages, which helps make it a good stocking stuffer. Parents can buy smaller sized cans to fit in small stockings or full-size cans for bigger stockings. Play Doh accessories like cookie cutters and plastic utensils can also fit in most holiday stockings.
