Swim Lessons

• If you want your toddler to learn to swim, take her to Aqua Tykes Swim School, which offers swimming lessons to children ages 6 months and older, with indoor lessons taking place in the heated pool at the Pyramids Hotel. Lessons are available year round. At Aqua Tykes, children attend short private lessons -- approximately 10 minutes -- for as long as necessary to master water survival skills. Once they are comfortable in the water and understand water safety, toddlers can take group lessons where they learn to swim and float -- as well as have lots of fun in the water. Another option for swim lessons is Aqua-Tots Swim School, which offers year-round swimming lessons tailored to your toddler's age and swim skill level. Toddlers at levels 1 and 2 learn basic swimming skills like blowing bubbles, kicking, floating and submersion before advancing to swimming without a parent. Once your toddler's comfort and skill levels advance, she can move on to level 3, which facilitates swimming without a parent.

McKinney High School Natatorium

• Indoor swimming at McKinney High School is available for your toddler whether you want to take her during public swim times or for lessons. If you choose the latter, instructors are available for both private and group lessons. The program guarantees that if your 3-year-old can hold her face in the water for 10 seconds, she can learn to swim across the shallow end, noting that some toddlers swim across the shallow end without being able to hold their breath for 10 seconds.

Frisco Athletic Center

• If you just want to have a fun day in the water with your tot, take a short 25-minute drive to the Frisco Athletic Center, which features indoor and outdoor aquatic centers. Indoors, there's a children's play structure, a warm water activity pool and a current channel with vortex, as well as a water slide. The outdoor center has a lazy river, a children's play structure, a lagoon pool, slides and a play center.

Dan Rodenbaugh Natatorium

• The Dan Rodenbaugh Natatorium is located just 15 minutes from McKinney in Allen. • The Colony Aquatic Park in City by the Lake is just a 26-minute drive from McKinney. There are limited public swim times in this indoor facility during the school year. However, you can sign up your toddler for private or semi-private swim lessons in which you participate as well. In addition to the indoor pool, during the summer, the Colony Aquatic Park also offers an outdoor leisure lagoon, wading pool and splash zone for young visitors.
