Things for Teenagers to Do During Christmas Vacation

Teenagers love Christmas break. It is a time for them to sleep in and be with friends. It is also a time to create memories with family members that they do not see throughout the year, as well as serve within their community. After of all of that, there is nothing wrong with giving them a little "friend time."

  1. Service Projects

    • There are many opportunities to serve during the holidays. If the weather is bad, encourage them to get up early to help you shovel sidewalks and driveways for the neighbors--especially for the elderly in the neighborhood. Take your teenagers and their friends out Christmas caroling. Hit a few houses in your neighborhood, and visit the neighborhoods of friends and extended family members. It would be great for a group of teens to collaborate on a service project together. Plan a Sub for Santa project for a few local families in need so their burdens will be lighter during the holidays.

    Family Time and Traditions

    • The Christmas holiday is a popular time of year for families to get together and build memories that will last them not only until the next holiday season, but a lifetime, memories your teenager is sure to pull from when they are adults and raising families of their own. Plan ahead and do things with your extended family, such as attend Christmas concerts in town, go Christmas caroling on Christmas Eve, or just spend a night by the fire drinking cocoa and looking at old family photos. Create fun family traditions that your teenager can look forward to every year, such as a Christmas breakfast that is only eaten on Christmas morning or playing secret Santa to a family in your area. Instilling family time and traditions in your teen is a gift that they will keep with them forever.

    Party of Their Own

Maybe they will choose to have it on a day in between Christmas and New Year's, giving them something to plan and look forward to during that time. Maybe they will want to throw a big New Year's Eve bash. Either way, let them do all of the planning, from the food to the games. Let this party be something that they create for their friends. All you have to do is approve the events list, be a chaperon, and of course, foot the bill.

    • In search of identity and acceptance, some teens look up to models who symbolize beauty and success. They try to emulate both the negative and positive traits associated with models, such as a sense of fashion and confidence or hard partying and drug
    • Most parents are constantly trying to convince their teens to go to bed at a reasonable hour. But sometimes, an all-night party is the ideal way to celebrate a holiday, special event or big accomplishment. Teens love being allowed to stay up all nigh
