Western Baby Nursery Ideas
Choosing a theme for your new baby's nursery is the first step to decorating the room. Whether you're having a boy or girl, a western-themed room is one option. Use images of the Old West to spark your imagination and inspire the environment. Hunt for country-style antiques to provide an authentic element.

Bedding
-
Choosing the bedding first will allow you to formulate a plan for the rest of the room. Your bedding will help dictate the colors for the walls and provide you with décor ideas. Baby supply stores often carry a variety of western-themed bedding for girls and boys. Another option, if you have sewing skills, is to make your own bedding. You can find western patterned fabrics at craft stores–as well as patterns to make bedding. For sheets, you can purchase solid colors from your local baby supply store and coordinate it to the bedding you design.
Walls
-
If you choose to decorate your nursery walls, painting should be completed before the furniture is moved in. When it comes to painting your walls, you have several options. The first idea is to simply paint your walls a single color that matches one of the colors in your chosen bedding. For example, let's say you pick a tan color from the desert sand or a deep blue color inspired by the sky.
A second option is to paint the room in several colors. You can paint each wall a different color or you could use painter’s tape to section the wall off in one foot vertical stripes. Then paint each stripe a different color that matches your bedding colors to make a striped room. A third idea is to paint a mural. Murals can be freehand painted or you can use an overhead projector. Simply place a transparency of your chosen image and project it onto the wall. Then you can paint the design yourself. A fourth option, for those who want a mural but don't want to undertake the artistic requirements of one, is to use wall clings. These can be found at baby supply stores and are like giant stickers that stick to the wall.
Décor
-
Once you have chosen your bedding and painted your walls, you can move your furniture into the room and choose some added décor to finish the western environment. If you want to give the furniture a more western feel then paint it to look like a cowhide. Another option is to glue lengths of sisal rope to the edge of the dresser and bookshelves to make it look like lasso rope. Place photographs of horses, cows and cowboys around the room. Choose toys to decorate the room that match your theme. This can include cowboys and Indians, horses, cattle and cacti. You can also add lamps, curtains, rugs and toy boxes with western scenes.
