How to Calculate the Date You Conceived a Child
Calculating the exact date you conceived your child is a difficult calculation due to the variances in the length of menstrual cycles and the amount of time sperm can live in the body. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days. Most women will ovulate 14 days before the period is due; therefore, on a 28 days cycle, ovulation will likely occur on day 14. A woman with a 30 day cycle would likely ovulate on day 16. Day one is the first day of your period. The calculation on when you conceived should not be based on the day you had intercourse but rather your ovulation and cycle days.
Instructions
Write down the date you expected your period to start. Subtract 14 days from that date. For example, if the date is March 15, subtract 14 days, then March 1 is the date your chances of conceiving were the highest. It does not matter whether a woman has a 24-day cycle, 28-day cycle or 30-day cycle, she should ovulate 14 days before her period is due to start. Visit your doctor and have an ultrasound performed. An ultrasound will measure the fetus for an estimated conception date. He can also listen for the heartbeat, measure the size of your uterus and draw blood to check hormone levels to determine the number of weeks you are pregnant and give a rough estimate of the date of conception.
