Games to Teach Modesty

Whether it is a style of clothing, language or behavior, modesty is a trait that is never out of style. Through appearance, we can show the world how precious our bodies are. The way we dress expresses who we are and influences our character and the way others act around us. Games and group activities can be an engaging way to teach modesty without restricting creativity and fashion.

  1. Fashion Show

    • Schedule a fashion show where younger kids watch older kids model the latest fashion in a modest manner. Help the older children choose the clothing and styles to wear. Not only will it make the older kids feel good about themselves and their choices, but the younger kids in the audience will want to dress like the older kids.

    Modesty Shoot

    • Plan a photo shoot. Have the models choose several modest outfits and have older peers do light makeup and hair styling. Take single and group photos of the models. Create a display for others to see, or make a scrapbook for the girls to keep.

    Scavenger Hunt

    • Take a group of young people to the mall and hold a scavenger hunt for modest items. Break the group into individuals or teams. Offer a prize to the team or person who finds the most items.

    Sewing

    • Teach the group to sew simple items, such as a pillowcase or a beach bag. Make note of how much the type of fabric or pattern plays a part in the look of the particular item. Once the group is more educated in sewing, they can begin designing their own clothes. This activity allows the group to express their creativity through design.
