How to Select a Stroller if You Live at the Beach

If you live near a beach, you'll need a stroller that works well on different surfaces and in different weather conditions. Look for the following features.

      Find a fairly lightweight stroller that is easy to maneuver and won't sink into soft sand.

      Look for a stroller that comes with a canopy or hood, to protect your baby from sun, wind and rain.

      Check the stroller for parts that could rust, if you live near salt water.

      Think about storage. Is the stroller's storage area big enough for towels, sunscreen, snacks and anything else you might bring with you?

      Check the brakes. You should be able to brake your stroller with one hand or foot, without bending down, even if you are moving fairly quickly along a beach or boardwalk.

      Consider a jogging stroller if you like to jog or run on the beach. This kind of stroller has excellent all-terrain wheels but often lacks a built-in storage area. You can buy a storage basket as an accessory.

      Find a stroller with both reclining and upright positions, so your child can nap while you walk.

      Check the height of the handles or handlebar. You should be able to walk behind the stroller comfortably without slouching or kicking the tires. If other members of the family are extremely tall, look for handlebar extensions.
