How to Make My Child Brilliant
We've seen the videos and read the stories of child prodigies -- children who stand out intellectually or who are brilliant in a particular area. Most people may want a brilliant child, but few are willing to put in the time and effort. Helping your child to fulfill her maximum potential requires that you go the extra mile. There are several steps you can take to help your child shine like the star you know she is.
Instructions
Provide a nutritious diet. Your child is growing and developing every day -- even her brain. Serve her vitamin- and nutrient-rich foods to promote optimal health of mind and body and provide a multivitamin to make up for any deficiencies. Read to your child starting early on. Children who grow up in homes where talking, listening and reading are common, typically have greater scholastic success and higher IQs, according to Frances P. Glascoe, Ph.D. of Vanderbilt University. Children who are read to early on often grow up to love reading, which opens up a whole new world for them. Expose your child to the arts. Visit museums and art galleries, attend musical performances and theatrical events. Expand her vision beyond television and give her real world experiences. She may develop an interest of her own that you can nurture. Provide the best possible education you can for your child. Whether you choose homeschooling, the public school system or a private academy, look for educators who encourage and challenge your child and offer a well-rounded curriculum. Take into consideration your child's learning style and choose educators who are willing to foster it. Encourage your child's natural curiosity. Never discourage questions; and if you don't know the answers, find them. Engage her in stimulating dialogue by discussing current events, history, religion, science, politics and other topics. Encourage her to form her own views, even when they don't correspond with your own. Enroll your child in sports and encourage her to be physically active. These types of activities will develop her physical agility, endurance and stamina, and expose her to other points of view. Participating in sporting activities will also enhance her reasoning skills and boost her confidence and self-esteem.
