Game Ideas for Teaching Etiquette to Young Girls

It is never too early to teach proper etiquette to young girls. Different settings and situations require different manners; learning the various rules and necessities on how to act in all these situations can be overwhelming for a young girl. Learning proper etiquette can be fun when you use games to instill manners and etiquette. Games can help your young girl remember the lessons she has learned.

  1. Telephone Etiquette

    • Practice proper telephone etiquette by role-playing phone call scenarios. Write down names of family members and potential callers, such as a parent's co-worker or a business, and place them in a bowl. Have your child pick one at random and have her practice speaking over the phone to whoever may be calling. Have her practice taking down messages on a pad of paper. Use your cell phone to call the house phone and have your child practice answering the phone, using proper manners and appropriate speaking volume.

    Table Manners

    • At a dinner table, there are many rules of etiquette to follow; make learning table manners fun by inventing games to learn the ins and outs of table etiquette. Play a memory game about how silverware should be arranged on a table, the difference between a salad fork and a dinner fork and where a napkin should be placed. You can also have your girl pretend she is a waitress at a restaurant, laying out the plates, silverware, glasses and napkins in the proper order.

    Restaurant Etiquette

    • Dining at home and dining out have different etiquette. Role-play with your girl as if you are seated at a fine dining restaurant. Show her how to sit in her seat properly, how to hold the menu and how to order her meal politely. Teach her to use "please" and "thank you" at the appropriate times while being served.

    Social Etiquette

    • When going out in public, or to another person's house, young girls should behave gracefully and treat others with respect. Playing games that teach proper manners can help them retain these lessons. Role-play greeting a new person, making eye contact, saying "hello," giving a handshake and practicing polite conversation.
