How to Know If Your Kid Is a Shoplifter
A child may shoplift for any number of reasons -- to get attention, fit in, copy her friend̵7;s behavior or get a thrill. Regardless of why she chooses to do so, she needs to know this behavior is wrong and must stop. If you believe your child is participating in this risky behavior, you should look for some telltale signs and address the issue immediately.
Instructions
Take a good look at what your child is wearing. If she is sporting new clothing or jewelry you didn̵7;t buy for her or you know she didn̵7;t have the money to purchase herself, she may be shoplifting. You will want to ask her about the clothing or item to see where she acquired it. If her story doesn̵7;t make sense or it just feels off, this further strengthens your case. Consider the items tossed in the trash, especially if they are hidden in tissues, containers or other objects. If you find clothing tags or packaging in the trash that you didn̵7;t put there or purchase, your child may be shoplifting. Evaluate your child̵7;s clothing and accessory choices before he leaves the house. Baggy clothing, oversized jackets, empty backpacks, big shopping bags and large purses are often used by a shoplifter to hide stolen items. Watch your child when you accompany her to the store. Shifty eyes, looking nervous, overhandling items without really looking at them and wanting to leave quickly are all red flags. If your child asks you to inquire about a product from a store employee but disappears for a bit, this can also indicate shoplifting behavior.
