How to Make a Child's Flip Book

Making a child's flip book is a fun project for parents or teachers to guide their children through. These small books are a way of creating basic animation through a series of simple drawings. This activity takes a little time and patience, but the final result of seeing a drawing come to life will delight any young artist.

Things You'll Need

  • Pad of paper
  • Art supplies (pencils, pens, markers, crayons)

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on what you want to draw and the type of motion you want to achieve. For instance, you might want to try drawing a ball that will appear to bounce across the page.

    • 2

Draw your picture on the last page of a small pad of paper. Your pad should have around 8 to 10 pages of blank paper for a simple flip book.

    • 3

Move to the next to the last page and draw the same image you drew on the last page but with some small change. For instance, if you drew a ball at the top left hand corner of the last page, draw the ball a little lower and more to the right.

    • 4

Continue changing the image slightly from one page to the next.

    • 5

Hold all the pages in your hand and flip them as you watch your images change from the last page back to the first.

    • 6

Make any adjustments or changes if needed. You also might want to add more detail to your pictures, such as color and background images.
