Kid-Friendly Cooking Games
Giving the gift of cooking to a child provides math and organizational skills as well as providing self-sufficiency in the kitchen. Present the idea of cooking as a way to help out the family and learn lifelong skills and cooking will seem as appetizing as cleaning your room. Present cooking in the form of games and playfulness and a chef may be born.

Preparation
-
Cooking games require a bit of forethought and preparation. Take any recipe and assemble the proper tools and ingredients in an attractive manner for the child's ease of use. Consider purchasing disposable cooking utensils, such as foil pans, so the child can make a dish just for herself.
Hygiene
-
Before starting any cooking game, the exception being virtual games, teach proper hygiene. Clean hands, rolled up sleeves and contained long hair are essential before beginning to cook.
Recipes
-
Choose recipes that the child will enjoy eating. Making early cooking games joyful experiences will motivate children to cook in the future. For a reverse-engineering game where the child guesses what recipe he's making while cooking, pick a dish the child is known to love and eats frequently. Depending on the level of prior cooking experience, choose a recipe that won't frustrate or challenge at too great a level. Simple is best.
Educational
-
Choose games that are both fun and educational. Make every aspect of the recipe fun. Turn gathering ingredients from the recipe into a scavenger hunt. Cover up the recipe title and see who can figure out what dish the recipe will become. Challenge the reader to figure out which food group each ingredient falls into. Many recipes list the amount of time preparation will take. Set the timer and try to beat that time.
