  1. Craft Blocks

    • Use pre cut blocks, or help older children cut a soft wood like pine into blocks. Once the blocks are cut, provide your kids with paint, glue and other items. Wooden craft blocks are a great for decorating. Kids can paint or stick letter decals of their names on the blocks. • Popsicle sticks can be the perfect introduction for young children to woodworking. Teach them how to cut and glue the sticks to make fun items. Although the kids will not be working with power tools and lumber, the principles of woodworking will translate to larger projects as kids become older. Popsicle stick recipe holders or pencil cups can be easily assembled by children as young as four.

    Birdhouse Projects

    • Perhaps the most time honored children's woodworking project is the birdhouse. Older children will love spending time with you as you cut, glue and nail together a birdhouse for your backyard. Once the woodworking is complete, paint the house together and set it up in your back yard. Although older kids will love this project, it should be conducted under the supervision of an adult.
