How to Make Super Hero Masks
A basic mask that covers the eyes, and conceals the wearer's identity, is an essential part of most superhero costumes. While you could buy a plastic mask at most discount stores around Halloween, if you need a quick costume or want to customize your mask, you can easily make one out of poster board.
Things You'll Need
- Computer (optional)
- Printer (optional)
- Paper (optional)
- Poster board
- Pencil or pen
- Scissors
- Small hole punch
- Crayons, markers or paint
- Feathers (optional)
- Sequins or beads (optional)
- Craft glue
- Shoelaces, string or elastic bands
Instructions
Find a mask template online and print it out on paper. Draw any adjustments to the shape of the mask that you want to customize it. Cut out the mask template with your adjustments and hold it up to your face to make sure it fits and the eye holes are spaced correctly so you can see through the mask. Trace the template outline onto the poster board using the pencil. Cut the mask out of the poster board. Punch holes in the two bottom corners of the mask with the hole punch. Decorate the mask any way you want -- with paint, markers, feathers or anything else you can think of -- but don't make it so heavy that it won't stay on your face properly. Wrap the elastic, string, or shoelace around your head, measure it and cut it to the appropriate size for supporting the mask. Tie the elastic strap or shoelace into the sides of the mask, creating a quick head strap.
