Places for Kids to Play Indoors
If your kids are cooped up during a cold winter, hot summer or rainy day, get them out of the house to an indoor play area, so they can let go of some of that energy and just have some good old fun. You may be surprised to learn that you have a few options nearby. Just keep in mind that indoor play areas may be especially crowded on rainy days, on the weekends and on days the local public schools are closed.

The Mall
-
Many indoor malls have a play center or area for kids to play inside for free. They often include small slides, tunnels and other equipment to climb. Socks are usually required. There may be a maximum height requirement, so if your child is too tall, he cannot play.
Indoor Play Centers
-
Indoor play centers are popping up in different cities and towns across the United States. Some cafes, for example, have a supervised play area for the kids. Indoor bounce centers contain a series of large, inflatable bounce houses with slides, tunnels and obstacle courses. Other play centers may contain large playgrounds, a rock wall, a zip line or an arcade. For these types of places, there is usually an admission fee for children.
Children's Museum
-
Most children's museums have hands-on activities that children can play with. For example, they may have a dress-up area, crafts, ropes course, mock grocery stores for children to "shop," and puppets and a puppet stage. Children's museums are sometimes costly, but they may have discount days, so call or check online.
Fast Food Restaurant
-
Some fast food restaurants have indoor play areas. Even if you just go for ice cream, you can spend an hour or more there for your kids to let loose some of their pent-up energy. The restaurant may also have free wireless Internet, if you want to bring your laptop to work while they play. Play places also require socks and have a maximum height requirement.
