Where to Sew Brownie Badges
Brownies are Girl Scouts who wear a uniform along with a vest or a sash to proudly display their troop number and various pins and badges. If you are the mom or dad in charge of attaching all of these badges, keep your Brownie looking her best by attaching each badge in its proper location.

Official American Flag Wavy Design
-
The American Flag badge is an optional part of your Girl Scout Brownie's vest or sash. Sew it on the right front side of the vest or at the top of the sash just below the shoulder seam and right above the council identification badges.
Council Identification
-
The Council Identification badges are made up of one badge that proclaims you are part of the Girl Scouts USA and another that has your council name. Sew these badges on the front right side of your vest or sash below the American Flag patch, approximately 11/2 inches below the shoulder seam, and above the troop number badges. The two badges should be sewn with the Girl Scouts USA badge on top and the straight sides of the badges almost touching.
Troop Numbers
-
Troop number badges display the numbers associated with your Girl Scout Brownie's group and should be sewn just above the membership star pins on the right side of the vest or on the sash just above underarm level right below the Council Identification patches. Sew individual patches so sides are touching each other in a horizontal row.
Bridge Badge
-
Girl Scouts who started before Brownie level may receive a Bridge to Girl Scout Brownies Badge. This should be sewn onto the vest or sash above the award patches and just below the membership stars pins on the right side of the vest over the chest or chest level on the sash.
Journey Award Patches
-
Brownie Award Patches are triangle-shaped and should be sewn above the Try-It badges with their edges adjacent and alternating triangles up and down to form neat rows or larger triangle-shaped blocks.
Try-It Badges
-
Triangle-shaped Try-It badges represent a Brownie's completed skills and accomplishments during her participation with the troop. Brownie Try-It badges should be sewn in rows along the bottom edge on the front sides of the vest or the bottom edge of the front of the sash falling near the hip. Start adding badges on the bottom right side of the front of the vest and move to the left side when right is full. Sew Try-It badges next to one another, alternating triangles up and down for neat rows.
Fun Badges
-
Your Girl Scout Brownie may receive badges from special events or activities throughout her troop participation. All of these badges should be sewn onto the back of the vest or sash. Ask your troop leader for special instructions for their placement.
