How to Make a Ring Sling
Ring slings are a wonderful way to transport your baby and still provide a close bond. They are wonderful for the busy mom. Ring slings can be used from day one to the small toddler age, and you do not need ten hands to put them on. This ring sling pattern requires few supplies. Consider making two so you'll have one ready to use while the other is in the wash.
Things You'll Need
- 2 yards fabric, 45-inch wide 2 metal rings, 3-inch Sewing machine Thread Scissors Measuring tape Straight pins Iron Tailor's chalk
Instructions
Cut the length of the 2-yard measurement in half. Set one length of fabric aside for making another ring sling later. Fold one long edge of the 2-yard length to the wrong side of the fabric a 1/4 inch. Press the fold. Fold the long edge over again a 1/4 inch. Press the fold again and pin. Top stitch the 1/4-inch hem using thread to match the fabric. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the other long edge of the baby ring sling. Fold one short end of the baby ring sling to the wrong side of the fabric a 1/4 inch. Press the fold. Fold the short end over a 1/4 inch again. Press the fold and pin the hem. Top stitch the 1/4-inch hem. Fold the other short end of the baby ring sling to the wrong side of the fabric a 1/4 inch. Press the fold. Fold the short end over again 2 inches. Press the fold. Do not pin. Draw a line on the baby sling beyond the fold using the tailor's chalk. Hold both rings together and thread the folded end through the rings. Line up the fold line against the tailor's chalk line. Top stitch as close to the folded edge as possible. Sew a few inches at a time and then line up the fold with the tailor's chalk line again. Continue across the baby ring sling end. Top stitch over the same stitching, once more. This will add extra stability to your baby ring sling. Pull the free end of the baby ring sling through both rings. Fold the end back over one ring and through the second to secure. Adjust the ends to fit.
