Install Instructions for the Topeak BabySeat
The Topeak BabySeat attaches to a rack that is screwed to your bicycle so that it is both easy to install and easy to remove for solo riding. While you need a screwdriver to install the rack the first time, removing and replacing the bicycle seat itself requires no tools. Purchase and install a rack to a second bicycle so both parents can enjoy riding with their child.
Things You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver
Instructions
Attaching the Rack
Stand the bicycle upright on level ground, having a friend hold it steady, if desired. The bicycle must remain in this position while attaching the rack. Place the rack onto the rear tire with the two front prongs facing toward the bicycle seat. Line up the prongs so they are on the outside of the bar connecting the bicycle to the wheel. Slide the rack arms forward and backward until they are correctly aligned with the bicycle. Check that the rack is level to the ground. Tighten the Phillips screws on each of the rack arms, but do not fully tighten screws. Align the screw holes on both bottom arms of the rack to the screw holes on either side of the bicycle frame near the center of the rear wheel. The Topeak BabySeat attaches to frames with disc mounts or only threaded dropout eyelets, but should not be used on frames with other fittings. Insert screws into screw holes through the rack to the frame on either side of the rear wheel and tighten screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Do not fully tighten screws. Tighten all screws after again checking that the rack is level to the ground. Attaching the Seat
Locate the hook on the bottom of the BabySeat and slide it onto the front rail of the rack that is attached to the bicycle. Press the seat down onto the rack until you hear a "click," indicating that the seat has snapped into the rack. Push the red button on the back of the BabySeat and pull the side lock out of the seat. Insert the slide lock into the rack from the left side while facing the back of the seat until you hear a "click" and the red button pops through the hole in the rack. Wrap the two short ends of the "T" strap at the bottom of the BabySeat around the bicycle post and fasten by threading the loose end through the buckle, adjusting the length as necessary. Pull tight.
