How to Make Homemade Baby Wraps

A baby wrap is a piece of fabric tied around a parent̵7;s upper body to carry a child, and they can offer many advantages. Newborns have a strong sense of smell to compensate for bad sight, so being close to your scent is comforting for them. The secure wraps also don̵7;t require you to hold your child, allowing you to multitask; mothers can even nurse their babies as they get on with other jobs. There are many more reasons to make your own baby wrap, but that your little one is in constant hugging position is reason alone.

Things You'll Need

  • At least 17 feet by 2.5 feet of non-slippery fabric.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your fabric 14-feet-long for a small wrap, 15.5-feet-long for medium and 17-feet-long for large. Make the width 2.5 feet.

    • 2

Hold the wrap in front of your body horizontally, so you are position in the center of the fabric.

    • 3

Grab the left side and pull it around to your back; then pull the fabric from your back over your right shoulder, so it is now hanging at the front.

    • 4

Take the right side of the fabric and guide it around the right side of your back and over your left shoulder, so now both sides are hanging in front of you.

    • 5

Place your baby, facing you, into the fabric around your waist. The child̵7;s legs will protrude from the bottom.

    • 6

Pull on both sides of the fabric that are hanging over your shoulders; this will tighten the wrap and secure your baby. Tighten until the fabric forms a seat, fastening around the infant̵7;s bottom to under her knees.

    • 7

Grab the right hand side end of your fabric, with your other hand on your baby, and drag it across your child̵7;s left shoulder, then under the right leg. Ensure the fabric is spread out across the baby̵7;s back and bottom.

    • 8

Pull the left side of the fabric over the baby̵7;s right shoulder and tuck under the left leg, again making sure the fabric is spread out.

    • 9

Take hold of both ends, one in each hand, and bounce gently, as you pull the two ends of the fabric to tighten your wrap.

    • 10

Tie the two ends securely around your lower back.
