How to Decide What to Include In a Diaper Bag
With a little planning, you can avoid the stress of rushing to get your diaper bag packed before getting out the door with your baby. Keep your diaper bag organized so you will be ready to go. You've got enough to carry, so don't over-pack. Enjoy outings with your baby rather than stressing about your diaper bag.

Make a list of necessities for your diaper bag. Hang the list on the inside of a pantry or cabinet so you won't have to search for it. Pack food. If your baby is not eating yet, pack travel-friendly formula and a small bottle of water. Keep a closed pack of teething biscuits, crackers, raisins, gummy snacks or other age-appropriate treats that will keep in your bag for a few weeks. Include diapers. After each outing, check to be sure you have at least four diapers and a package of wipes. Don't forget to include a pull-up or change of underpants for an older child. Keep juice boxes or bottled water in your diaper bag. Put a small bag or box of crayons and paper or coloring book in the bag. Include items for yourself as well: gum, hard candies, lip balm, pen and paper. Stock small packages of medications such as diaper rash ointment, ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Keep a copy of each child's immunization history and list of any allergies in the bag. Check to be sure you have an updated version once a year. Don't forget stickers. You can purchase stickers at many drugstores, craft stores and grocery stores. Stock up whenever they are on sale and store them in your diaper bag. Stickers and paper can provide hours of entertainment for all ages. Pack playing cards or flashcards. Carry a book or two in your diaper bag, Include one or two Matchbox cars. Boys and girls can entertain themselves sitting in a seat or on the floor. Pack extra comfort items such as clean pacifiers, a blanket and a bottle.
