What is the most dangerous place for your baby to sleep?
Here's why:
* Risk of Suffocation: A baby's head can easily become trapped in the soft cushions of a couch or armchair, making it difficult to breathe.
* Risk of Falling: Babies can roll off couches and armchairs, especially if they're not supervised.
* Risk of SIDS: While the exact cause of SIDS is unknown, sleeping on soft surfaces like couches is associated with an increased risk.
Always place your baby to sleep on their back in a firm, flat crib or bassinet.
Other unsafe sleeping environments include:
* Adult beds: The risk of suffocation, falling, or overheating is higher in an adult bed.
* Car seats, swings, bouncers, and carriers: These are meant for short periods and should not be used for sleep.
* On a pillow or blanket: Babies should sleep on a firm mattress with a fitted sheet only.
For more information on safe sleep practices, talk to your pediatrician or visit the National Institutes of Health website.
