Installation Instructions for the Graco SnugRide Car Seat

Because it's lightweight and comes in many colors and patterns, the Graco SnugRide is a popular infant car seat choice of new parents. This infant seat has a base and a car seat that work together to keep your infant safe in the car. In addition, parents like the mobility of an infant car seat. Though car seats might seem self-explanatory, Seat Check, a car seat resource center, claims that seven out of ten car seats are improperly installed, even though 96 percent of parents believe their seats are correctly installed.

Things You'll Need

  • Graco SnugRide base and car seat
  • Graco Snug Ride owner's manual
  • Your vehicle's owner manual

Instructions

  1. Installing the SnugRide with a Seat Belt

    • 1

Remove the car seat from the base by pulling on the release handle on the back of the seat, just under where the baby's head would be positioned.

    • 2

Place the base in the car, and make sure the base is level. To do this, the car should be on level ground. Check the base's level indicator; the base is level when you're only able to see blue in the indicator's window. Adjust the adjustable foot on the base as needed.

    • 3

Thread the seat belt through the belt pathway, and buckle the seat belt into the correct buckle. Make sure the belt goes under the tongue located in the middle of the base. Ensure that the seat belt isn't twisted or turned. Use a locking clip if you're installing the base in a seat that has a combination lap/shoulder belt with a latchplate that slides freely along the belt. Pinch the lap and shoulder belts together one-half of an inch behind the buckle tongue. Unbuckle the seatbelt and place the locking clip where you pinched the straps together. Make sure you don't let the seatbelt slip at all. Rebuckle the seat belt. It should still be tight. If the lap belt moves at all, reinstall the locking clip again.

    • 4

Tighten the seat belt, if no locking clip was needed. Push down on the base with your knee while pulling and tightening the vehicle belt.

Installing the SnugRide with the LATCH System

    • 5

Remove the car seat from the base by pulling on the release handle on the back of the seat, just under where the baby's head would be positioned.

    • 6

Place the base in the car. Make sure the base is level. To do this, the car should be on level ground. Check the base's level indicator to make sure the base is level. The base is level when you're only able to see blue in the level indicator's window. Adjust the adjustable foot as needed.

    • 7

Extend the LATCH straps as far as they'll go to make installation easier. The LATCH strap should be under the tongue on the base and threaded out of the sides of the base. They shouldn't be twisted anywhere.

    • 8

Hook the LATCH connectors to the vehicle's anchors. You will find your vehicle's anchors on the left and right of the seat; however, not every seat will be equipped with anchors. Pull on the connectors to make sure they're properly attached.

    • 9

Tighten LATCH straps by pushing on the base with your knee and pulling the LATCH straps until they're tight.
