How to Treat a Bad Diaper Rash

As a parent you will face many challenges that will prove to be frustrating. With a babies sensitive skin it is no surprise that diaper rashes are one of those challenges. Treating a diaper rash, however, does not have to be challenging. Here you will find some ideas on how to get rid of that diaper rash and put a smile back on your baby's face. Some of these methods of treating a diaper rash are common creams and ointments(but even a 4X mom like me learned what I know through others' parenting advice) and some are here to give you ideas on other methods and alternatives that you can try to treat and prevent diaper rash.

Instructions

    • 1

For diaper rash treatment and prevention your first step needs to be making sure diapers are getting changed frequently because the wetness can cause the skin to chafe as well as rash.

    • 2

Limit juice and other acidic foods and drinks. The acid in these foods/drinks will come out in the urine which can cause diaper rashes and skin irritation. (fruits, fruit drinks, yogurt, mayonnaise, pickles, soda, ginger ale etc)

    • 3

Allow your baby's skin to breath between diaper changes. Try and leave the diaper off for several minutes between diaper changes so their sensitive skin can breath and thoroughly dry.

    • 4

With every clean diaper make sure to spread on a good thick layer of diaper rash cream, ointments or powders(i.e. Desitin, A&D Ointment, baby powder etc)over the diaper area.

If the diaper creams/ointments show no signs of help you can try a product, that I used, called "Aquafer" - this can be found in the lotion section. For me with this product I saw fast results and have never used anything else since discovering it. This provides a good barrier over the skin and protects it from irritants.

If you still have no luck in getting rid of your baby's diaper rash, at this point the best bet is to talk to your child's pediatrician. They may be able to prescribe a stronger ointment to treat the rash. (for me the prescription did not work but every baby is different as is the sensitivity of their skin)
