How to Help an Infant Get Rid of Gas
Gas pains can cause your infant to be cranky and uncomfortable. When gas bubbles get trapped, the best way to help is to physically rub them out of your baby. A lot of the time, rubbing the belly alone can help expel the gas, but sometimes the infant will require a little more help. There are a few ways that you can provide relief and comfort for your baby and have him feeling better in no time.
Things You'll Need
- Burping cloth
Instructions
Lay a burping cloth over your shoulder and position your baby so that her head is resting on the shoulder as well. Use your hand to gently pat and rub the infant's back, in between the shoulder blades. Keep at it until the baby burps onto the cloth. If the baby's gas pains are deeper and not a result of a recent meal, try the next approach. Lay your infant on his back. Use your hands to move the baby's legs in a bicycle motion, which will help move gas bubbles downward and provide an easier release. If the bubbles are still being stubborn, move on to Step 3. Hold your baby in an upright position and walk around for a bit. This will create a very gentle pressure on her tummy that can help the gas settle or move down.
