Infant Swimming Lessons in Boston

Charles River Aquatics

• Boston University is home to Charles River Aquatics. Its Tiny Tots Program is designed for children under the age of 3 and uses songs and simple games to acclimatize the little ones. Lessons are for 30 minutes each week. Swim diapers are required, as are the confident arms of a trusted caregiver.

Dedham Health and Athletic Complex

• The Water Babies class over at Dedham Health and Athletic Complex encourages positive interactions between you and your little one through water play. The heated pool allows for fun and relaxation while practicing baby's emerging skills. Thirty-minute lessons are available year-round and are offered seven days a week at both member and nonmember pricing.

YMCA of Greater Boston

• Don't forget to check out your local branch of the YMCA. Situated in most neighborhoods, the YMCA offers parent and infant swim classes at affordable rates and baby-friendly times. Their Shrimp class exposes infants and children up to the age of 2 years to the swimming pool and teaches parents or caregivers about water safety. Classes are usually eight weeks long and are available to members and nonmembers.

Infant Swimming Resource

• If traditional swim lessons are not what you're looking for, you might be interested in Infant Self Rescue. The belief is that when given the skills, babies can potentially save their own lives when at risk of drowning. The one-on-one lessons teach babies to roll onto their backs, with a float, rest, breathe pattern -- remaining until they are rescued. Trained instructors can be found throughout the Boston area to teach this valuable and effective life skill.
