Three month old infants are just starting to learn grasping skills. Work on these skills by giving them wash cloths or small socks to manipulate and hold on to. You can also try placing rattles in their hands. They may only hold on to them for a few seconds at first.

Play mats are a hit with 3 month olds! First place the toys at a level where they can kick them. Hang a few toys that make noise. Infants skills develop from gross motor to fine motor. Often infants will kick or bat at toys by accident and by hearing a noise will reinforce successful attempts.

Play many different kinds of music. If you want a child to have an ear for classical music or another language this is the time to play a diverse range of music to continue to develop their sense of sound, tone, and rhythm.

A good set of knees comes in handy. Three month olds love rhythmic movements and will happily bounce on a knee or sway in a loving pair of arms anywhere.

The outdoors are a hit with this age. By this time, they have adjusted to bright light and are more tolerant of temperature changes. Three month olds love to sit with you in chairs, lay on blankets, or lay/sit in bouncer seats or strollers and learn about the world around them. If you don't have access to the outdoors try an indoor conservatory/garden. Make sure to keep your little one shaded! Sun screen and direct sun is not recommended for this age.

Stroller rides are a great way for mom or dad to get exercise and baby to get outside. Being outside will help your baby learn day time from night time and make him/her a better sleeper. A stroller ride is often a great thing to do before nap time! Maybe baby will even fall asleep on the way home!

MILESTONE! Rolling is the development milestone for this age! Lay a blanket on the floor and gently/playfully roll your baby from front to back and back to front to teach him/her the motion. This can be a fun and enjoyable game. Motivate your baby to roll with favorite toys or noise rattles.
