Unique Birthday Photo Ideas for Toddlers

The age of digital photography is here, and it is the perfect way to take photographs of your toddler's birthday celebration. Commemorate the event with a variety of unique birthday photos taken around your home. Simple props such as a wagon, overstuffed chair or large calendar are just a few ideas to create a unique photograph.

  1. Wagon

    • Summertime fun is sure to be remembered when you shoot a photograph of your toddler's birthday using her favorite wagon as a prop. Position the wagon in front of a large shrub, tree, pond or bed of flowers. Sit your toddler in the wagon and begin shooting the photograph. Another option is to fill the wagon with birthday presents. Have your toddler hold the handle of the wagon as if she is pulling it to a new location. Zoom in on your toddler and the wagon to eliminate a cluttered background. Begin shooting the photographs. During the shooting process with either position, ask your toddler to wave at you or make a funny face.

    Overstuffed Chair

    • Capture your favorite overstuffed chair and your toddler during their birthday celebration. Move the chair to an area where the background is a bare wall. Sit your toddler in one corner of your overstuffed chair along with two or three of his favorite birthday gifts. Add two to three helium balloons to the setting by tying the ribbon holders so the balloons extend up approximately two feet. Place the balloons on the opposite side of the chair from where your toddler is sitting. Zoom in so the balloons are at the top of the frame and your toddler is on one side. Start shooting and create a unique photograph.

    Large Calendar

    • Capture the official date of the birthday party by capturing your child and a large calendar. Open the large calendar so the correct month is showing. Circle the date and write "Happy Birthday" and your toddler's name on the calendar. Place the calendar on a neutral surface such as grass, hardwood floor or plain colored carpeting. Take a position above the calendar by standing on a chair or stool. You will be looking straight down at the calendar. Ask another adult to position your child in a standing position directly next to the calendar so the calendar is at an angle. Say your toddler's name so she will look up at you. Zoom in on your toddler so you capture her head and the calendar without a lot of background. Start shooting and enjoy your unique photograph.

    Pool Party

    • Commemorate the fun of summertime with a creative cool and wet birthday photograph. Sit your toddler in the center of a wading pool. Zoom in on him, and begin shooting the photograph. Ask your toddler to hit the top of the water with his hands to make the water splash. Continue to shoot photographs during the splashing to create a fun filled birthday photograph.
