Disciplinary Camps for Boys
Disciplinary camps for boys give troubled and at-risk boys the push they need to turn their lives around before making costly mistakes. There are various approaches these camps can take. Some camps take a military approach with lots of physical activity and drill instructors to push boys toward success. Other programs follow a code of nurturing and therapy, while other programs combine these two methods.Choose the program that will benefit your son the most.

Midcourse Correction Challenge Camp
-
Midcourse Correction Challenge Camps are weekend programs that aim to inspire troubled youth, ages 11 to 18. The camps, which are held at Covenant Hills Camp in Otisville, Michigan, are offered year-round on weekends, starting Friday evening and concluding Sunday evening. The camps consist of a rigorous physical regime which includes calisthenics, ropes courses, marching, work projects and teamwork activities. Campers will be subjected to four seminar sessions throughout the weekend. The first, "Cancelled Lives," is a video and discussion about life inside a juvenile detention facility, jail and prison. "What's To Become of Me" is a lecture on the consequences of choices and the need for a balanced life. "Life on The Wire" is a creative session that visualizes the impact of positive and negative decision-making. "What You Believe is Not What You Think" strives to teach that actions are a reflection of an individual's beliefs and that our actions should be consistent with the values we claim to uphold. Special accommodations can be made for campers who aren't in good physical shape. The camp includes two nights lodging and six meals.

Camp Summit Boot Camp is run by the Indiana Department of Corrections. It is a medium to high security juvenile facility for troubled males. The 28-week program practices military and drill ceremonies, physical training, education, substance abuse treatment programs and counseling as methods of behavior correction. Boys progress through different levels of the program before completion. These are the orientation level, four growth levels, two transition levels and a release level. Parents must attend a family therapy session before boys can graduate. The accredited education program allows students to earn credits in math, English, reading and history, as well as take computer-based classes. Students aged 17 and older must complete their GED before graduating from Camp Summit. Upon graduation, boys are required to complete eight hours of community service and participate in follow-up education and treatment programs. Religious services and a bookmobile are provided to program participants. In addition, an awareness program about sexually transmitted infections and HIV is provided every three months; boys are taught of the dangers and methods of disease prevention. Boys are generally recommended for the program through a court referral.
