How to Increase Ovulation

Each month, the ovaries of healthy, fertile women release an ovum, called an egg, through the fallopian tubes and into the uterus. This time is called ovulation, and it is the most fertile time during a woman's menstrual cycle. If a sperm meets an egg during ovulation, pregnancy occurs. Though the body naturally ovulates most months, there are some steps a woman can take to increase her chances of ovulation.

      Maintain a healthy weight. Eat a diet that is high in nutrition and low in fats and sodium. Exercise regularly. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, healthy adults should attempt moderate exercise and an elevated heart rate for 30 minutes each day, five days a week. Calculate your BMI (body mass index), and aim to keep your body weight and BMI appropriate for your age, height and body type.

      Avoid too much exercise. Try to exercise no more than is recommended, regardless of your weight, as too much vigorous exercise can decrease your chances of ovulation.
