Ways to Induce Labor Naturally
If you are pregnant and have passed your due date, you're probably very eager to meet your new baby. There are many safe and natural ways that you can induce labor at home. However, if you have a high-risk pregnancy or you are not overdue, it is not a good idea to induce labor. Be sure to check with your doctor before you try any method of induction.

Sex With Your Partner
-
One of the safest ways to naturally induce labor is to have sex with your partner. Semen contains prostaglandins, which will help ripen your cervix and start dilation. Additionally, if you have an orgasm, it will stimulate your uterus and your body will release oxytocin, a hormone that can cause contractions. However, if your water has already broken, it is not safe to have sex because it could cause an infection.
Nipple Stimulation
-
Nipple stimulation can be effective in inducing labor because it will cause your body to release oxytocin, the hormone that causes contractions. The easiest way to do this is to use a breast pump. If you do not have a breast pump, you can also do this manually. Gently massage the nipples in a circular motion. Only massage one nipple at a time. Continue massaging until a contraction is felt. Once the contraction stops, continue rubbing the other nipple. If contractions are very close together, do not continue stimulating the nipples.
Walk
-
Walking is another natural way to induce labor. This method typically will work only if you're already having some contractions, but aren't yet in labor. Since walking forces you to stand upright, gravity will help the baby get in the proper position for delivery. Also, the movement of the hips will help the baby position itself. Another advantage of walking is that it's relaxing, which may help bring labor on.
