Acupressure Techniques to Induce Labor
Acupressure is a natural way to help induce labor by pressing on certain points located on the body. Pressing these points stimulates the uterus to begin contracting or can make contractions stronger in early labor. If you are overdue, try using these pressure points on the body to help induce labor naturally.

When To Use Pressure Points
-
Pregnant women should use these acupressure methods only when they are overdue, when they are in labor and need to strengthen contractions, or when their water breaks. Never use these acupressure points in early pregnancy or before your due date. Doing so can cause stimulation of the uterus and premature labor. Consult with your physician about using acupressure points for inducing labor.
Hoku Acupressure Point
-
The hoku acupressure point is located on the top of the hand in between the webbing of the thumb and index finger. Using the index finger of your other hand and thumb, press firmly at an angle underneath the bone that connects to the index finger. After pressing lightly, begin massaging the pressure point. Massaging this pressure point will stimulate contractions.
Spleen 6 Acupressure Point
-
The spleen 6 acupressure point is located on the inside of the ankle above the ankle bone. Trace your finger up the inside of the ankle, right above the ankle bone, and press firmly but not so hard that it hurts. Massage for about one minute.
Bladder 32 Acupressure Point
-
The bladder 32 pressure point is located at the dimple of the buttocks and spine. Trace your finger down to the top of the buttocks where the spine is located until you feel a small depression. Press into the depression firmly and massage for a minute. Continue until you feel contractions beginning.
