How to Take Epo for Labor
As the end of pregnancy approaches, expectant mothers -- eager to meet their new babies and to stop feeling swollen and huge -- often begin looking into methods that will encourage labor to happen sooner rather than later. One natural means for inducing labor is evening primrose oil, a cervical-ripening agent extracted from the seeds of the evening primrose plant. While no natural or medical method of starting labor is guaranteed to work, proper use of EPO may encourage the hormonal processes that will help your labor begin.
Things You'll Need
- 500 mg capsules of evening primrose oil
Instructions
Wait until you reach 37 weeks of pregnancy. You shouldn't encourage labor to begin until you have reached full-term. Find a doctor, midwife or herbalist trained in the use of herbs for inducing labor. Since individual women may react differently to EPO, guidance from a knowledgeable health care practitioner can help ensure you use the herb safely. Take two to three 500 mg capsules of EPO orally every day starting at 37 weeks. Insert two to three 500 mg capsules of EPO high in the vagina every night before bed, starting at 37 weeks. Wear a pantyliner or pad to catch any oil that leaks out. Massage EPO directly onto your cervix. Crush a capsule to release the oil. Rub the oil onto your cervix with a clean finger.
