This is a great quality for a child to possess and you certainly do not want your child to feel that her opinion and her curiosity are unimportant. However, you should first teach your child how to recognize the difference between rude back talk and respectful debate, which might just minimize the number of times you need to issue discipline. For example, if you ask your child to do her chores and she asks you why you make her do chores, don̵7;t just assume she̵7;s talking back. Explain to her that as long as she keeps her questions, delivery, tone and language respectful you are happy to discuss the issue with her so that she has a clear understanding of why things are done a certain way in your house.

    • Children love the privileges they are given. Those old enough to have a cell phone love the freedom of being able to text, call and maybe even access the internet at their fingertips, for example. Additionally, kids love playing outside, visiting friends, having sleepovers, playing on the computer and watching television. When your child exhibits rude and inconsiderate behavior, consider which privilege she most enjoys and take it away from her for however long you think is appropriate.

    Make Her Pay

    • You can literally make your child pay for her rude behavior. According to Disney Family, you can require that part of her allowance is taken away from her anytime she is rude to you. Explain to her that being rude comes with a price and that price happens to be her allowance. For example, you can place your child̵7;s allowance in a jar and take money out of that jar every time she is rude to you. You can take away quarters or dollars or any denomination you find appropriate after considering how much allowance she gets each week. Refill the jar each week to allow her to start over fresh.

    Natural Consequences for Rude and Inconsiderate Behavior

    • Sometimes allowing your child to be rude or inconsiderate creates its own form of punishment, which is referred as a natural consequence, according to WebMD. Natural consequences allow your child to personally experience something unpleasant without your interference, which is a great way to learn a lesson. For example, say your child is inconsiderate at a friend̵7;s house. As a result, her friend̵7;s parents may decide your child is no longer allowed to come over and play with their child, which is a form of punishment in its own.
