Genesis Learning Centers

Founded in 1984, Genesis is a non-profit organization with educational programs in Nashville, Clarksville and Murfreesboro. Typically, referred students need specialist education and support services due to extreme difficulties at school or in the home. Genesis offers this to students with a wide range of emotional and behavioral difficulties, as well as those with learning disabilities and developmental delays. In addition, the center offers therapeutic programs to ̶0;youth at risk.̶1; These are young people going through the juvenile courts in danger of receiving a custodial sentence. Students unable to get to school because of illness or other special circumstances receive home tutoring from the Genesis homebound education service.
Scenic Land School

Starting with kindergarten and going up to 8th grade, Scenic Land School in Chattanooga offers personalized teaching to children with a range of learning differences including dyslexia, Asperger̵7;s syndrome and attention deficit disorder. As with many specialist schools, each child is given an individual education program designed in consultation between teachers, parents and student. Class sizes are small to ensure each student receives the maximum amount of individual tuition. The curriculum is approved by the state of Tennessee and follows the state̵7;s core curriculum used in public schools.
Concord Academy

This state-approved, non-profit school in Memphis provides education for students in grades six to 12. It specializes in students with difficulties in maths, reading and writing, those with attention deficit disorder and students with visual and hearing impairment. Children with Asperger̵7;s or mild autism are also accepted provided they are able to fit in with other children. Counselors and therapists are available to supplement educational activities, and the school emphasizes the importance of community service activities and teaching life skills. The school also serves students from Arkansas and Mississippi.
Curry Ingram Academy

Based in Brentwood, the Curry Ingram Academy was founded in 1968 under the name, Westminster School. It is a private school providing education to children with a range of learning problems, from kindergarten through the 12th grade. The school encourages students who struggle with standard educational methods to develop individual learning strategies. The curriculum accommodates both the average academic student and the exceptionally gifted. Curry Ingram has its own diagnostic center and all applicants must complete an assessment and evaluation process before a place is offered. Parents can apply for financial assistance once a child has a firm offer.
